Arnold Mayor Mark Powell Seeks State Treasurer’s Post in 2008
Arnold, Missouri. Mayor Mark Powell of Arnold has announced he will
seek the democratic nomination for the position of Missouri State Treasurer
in the 2008 elections.
Powell is an accountant and career financial professional with over 25
years banking, investment and accounting experience.
About his decision, Powell made the following statement:
“The treasurer is the banker for the state. In recent years the state has not
had a banker or accountant sitting in the treasurer’s seat. I want to change
that.”
“Never having held any state office, I surprised many people by running for
and winning the democratic nomination for state treasurer in 2004. In both
the primary and the general elections, I was outspent by huge margins. I
traveled 50,000 miles around the state and met thousands of good people.
It was a real grassroots campaign.”
“The 2008 campaign will be similar to 2004. I will travel the state, meet
people, and share this message: The taxpayers of our state deserve to
have professionals managing their money.”
“My method will be the same as 2004. I will criss-cross the state in my
Missouri made Dodge Caravan as my campaign vehicle. My entire focus
will be on the people of our great state, not on fundraising or wining and
dining the wealthy. I have been a lifelong community volunteer and plan on
encouraging community involvement as I address individuals and groups
across Missouri. I have a huge confidence in Missourians, their abilities,
and their compassion for others."
Powell, who earned his accounting degree from Missouri State University,
has been the mayor of Arnold since 2001. He previously had served as city
treasurer and had served three terms on the Fox C-6 School Board in
Jefferson County.
